I was pleased to see CRISM data consistent with evaporites on the red planet. The idea of evaporites on Mars was not popular a decade ago when I was interning at JSC. There was even a GSA poster that suggested the northern polar cap was consistent with salt in how it deforms over time - after all, that big hole that held an ocean is the perfect spot to find a giant pile of evaporite. Yeah, whoever wrote that GSA poster was probably a jerk.
This was the article that initiated my interest. Geologic context of proposed chloride-bearing materials on Mars
Here is a story that mentions the chlorides mapping CRISM has done.
And finally, the GSA poster on salt on Mars. The silly authors didn't even bother to show up for the meeting session (he may have wrote the wrong day on the calendar).
